Ever have one of “those” days? Weeks? Years? Seems like for every step forward you slide back two? Life has been like this for me a lot lately. So consider the above advice by BP; well not really advice since it was part of the original Scout Law but you know what I mean.
Do you think that someone is capable of doing that? That no matter what is happening to your life, you lift your chin with a grin and carry on. I have my doubts. However… if someone were to try to remember those eight words each time life becomes difficult things might look not so bad. This seems like a much more manageable idea.
I could quote a million things from The Lion King (the past is the past) to the Bible (for everything there is a Season) about worrying about things you can’t change. Face it, things will always happen and there is no way to change that. It’s how you choose to react to it that matters. That is the spirit of the above quote.
So here’s a little challenge for you. I like to think that Scouting is a lifestyle choice, not an activity. You may take off the uniform, but you can’t take off the Scout. So the next time things are overwhelming – fix what you can, try to accept what you can’t, and try to smile! Whistling might not hurt either.
Until next time…
Be safe, be prepared, and keep smiling!
